Demolition Approvals in Mackay: Certifiers, WHS and QBCC
Who approves what in Queensland
- Private building certifier. Mackay Regional Council states that all demolition needs a building (demolition) approval, issued by a private certifier.
- Plumbing approvals. Sewer and stormwater capping by a licensed plumber.
- Heritage. State or local heritage places may need a development approval or an exemption certificate.
- WHS demolition licence. Required for load-shifting machinery on suspended floors, explosives, or pre- or post-tensioned elements. WHSQ must be notified 5 days ahead for structures 6 m or taller, plant on a suspended floor, or explosives.
- QBCC. A licence is not required for whole-house demolition alone, but is required where demolition is part of building work.
- Asbestos. It must be removed before demolition so far as reasonably practicable. Class B or A is needed above 10 m² of non-friable asbestos, and Class A for friable.
